An utterly superb quintet of singers will overwhelm you with the sheer beauty of a collection of works by Bach, his predecessor Franz Tunder, and his hero, Dieterich Buxtehude. The hopeful essence of Buxtehude's "Gott, hilf mir" and the celebration of life heard in "Jesu, meines Lebens leben" serve as preludes to one of the most famous and beloved vocal works of all time, Bach's expression of joy, "Jesu, meine Freude." Those three stunning works are brought together in the title of this concert, "Life, Hope, and Joy." A pair of settings of a beautiful text, entreating angels to carry the soul to resplendent rest, introduce Bach's intricate and thrilling Missa in G Major. Beautiful voices and beautiful music!
