| TERESA TAM (soprano)
began playing piano at the age of four and violin
at the age of eleven. She joined the Taipei Philharmonic
Choir in fifth grade and has been singing ever since. Teresa
began vocal studies at the age of sixteen, two
years after she moved to the states. In college she has been
establishing her reputation as a soprano soloist in the Faure
Requiem (2003) with the UC Davis University Chorus, and Benjamin
Britten's Rejoice of the Lamb, with the UC
Davis Chamber Singers. Performances of music by Bach have
included Gelobet sei der Herr (BWV 129) and Lieschen
in Bach's
Coffee Cantata (Schweigt stille, plaudert nicht), BWV 211
with the UC Davis Baroque Ensemble and Arcangeli Baroque
Strings.
As a music major at UC Davis, Ms. Tam has worked under
Jeffrey Thomas and David Nutter. In addition to her schooling
at UC Davis, Ms. Tam has studied at the San Francisco Conservatory
of Music Preparatory Division, Oberlin Conservatory's Vocal
Pedagogy Institute and Baroque Performance Institute,
and Icicle Creek Early Music Festival. During these programs
she had the opportunities to be the soloist in performances
of music from George Frideric Handel's
Acis and Galatea and Francesco Cavalli's La
Calisto (as Calisto). She has participated
in master classes with Judith Malafronte, Stephen Stubbs,
Richard Miller, Max van Egmond, Nancy Zylstra, and Penelope
Jensen. Next year she will pursue her graduate
studies in vocal performance. She is currently studying with
David Newman.
Despite her young age, Ms. Tam's accolades speak
to her talent and experience. In 2003 she was the sole recipient
of the David Saxon award for the Excellence in Early Music
Performance. She followed this prestigious honor by earning
it again in 2004. Other awards include the Hayward Art Council
Music Award and the Bank of America award for Fine Art in
music. |
