| DAVID ALLEN NEWMAN (baritone)
is highly regarded for his work in opera, oratorio and chamber
music throughout the United States and Canada. Noted for
the clarity and warmth of his voice and his expressive musicality,
he appears regularly with North America's leading early music
ensembles. Last season included Mass in B Minor with
The Bach Choir of Bethlehem and St. Matthew Passion with
The Bach Society of St. Louis. He also appeared as Ernesto
in Il Mondo Della Luna with Opera Lafayette, and
was a featured soloist at the Sorbonne's 2003 Festival Berlioz
in Paris with the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra. Past seasons
have included performances with Tafelmusik, The Portland
Baroque Orchestra, American Bach Soloists, a national tour
of St. Matthew Passion with the combined forces
of Santa Fe Pro Musica and The Smithsonian Chamber Players,
and a performance of Four Saints in Three Acts with
The Mark Morris Dance Group. He appears regularly as a guest
artist with The Four Nations Ensemble, including performances
in Lincoln Center and Merkin Hall, and has also performed
with The Opera Company of Philadelphia, The Metropolitan
Opera Guild, Opera Birmingham, The Philadelphia Orchestra,
and The Jacksonville Symphony. David lives in Northern
California with his wife and daughter, and teaches voice
at UC Davis.
